Compressing PDFs — FAQ

How does the compression work?+

We rewrite the PDF with object streams and a compact cross-reference table — the underlying library's standard save format. Most savings come from de-duping and stripping cruft. The text and images stay byte-identical.

Will the quality drop?+

No. This is a lossless rewrite — no image re-encoding, no font subsetting that loses glyphs. The visual output is byte-identical.

Why didn't my PDF get smaller?+

If your PDF was already saved with object streams (most modern PDFs are), there's not much to gain. We'll tell you the result either way.
